Visit from Barnshaws – Two Roundo Machines Brought Back to Life

We recently had the pleasure of welcoming Russ Barnshaw and Sylwester Twardowski from Barnshaws — one of the world’s leading manufacturers of rolled metal components, specializing in plate, section, and tube bending for construction and industrial projects of all sizes.
The main purpose of the visit was to inspect a Roundo PS460x3000, originally built by our team back in 1991, when we all worked at Roundo in Hässleholm — a company that closed over ten years ago.
Despite its age, the machine was still in solid mechanical condition. We performed a full overhaul and installed a modern control system, bringing the machine in line with today’s technical standards. To finish it off, we repainted the unit in SweBend colors, giving it a new look to match its renewed capability.
During the same visit, Russ also checked out a Roundo R-3 from 1998 that we had recently overhauled.
We equipped it with frequency inverters for both rotation and the hydraulic pump, allowing for stepless variable speed and enabling simultaneous movement (interpolation) — something the original setup couldn’t offer.
Combined with our Bluetooth control system and a separate electrical cabinet, these upgrades have given the R-3 a whole new level of precision and flexibility.
Russ Barnshaw and SweBend founder Peter Nilsson have a long history together, starting back in 1987 when Peter joined Roundo.
Over the years we have had a great relationship with numerous machines, projects and oh so many laughs.
