Customized SB3S 105 CNC for flanged plate bending at HoneywelL

SweBend SB3-105 CNC section bending machine with flanged plate loaded between profiled rolls and hydraulic guide rolls

A flanged plate passes through the profiled rolls of the SB3-105 CNC. The stacked roll segments are shaped to match the flange geometry, supporting the plate across its full width during bending.

Solving unique bending challenges with SweBend

Swe-bends expertise is solving unique bending challenges. For Honeywell, that challenge was to bend flanged plates with perfect, repeatable accuracy. These plates are typically used for industrial conveyors and sorting equipment.

Tailored forming based on the SB3 series

The segmented roll stack is precision-machined to match the flange profile. Each segment supports a different section of the flanged plate, preventing deformation during the bending process.

Our solution was to adapt the SB3 105, a standard model from our section bending machines range, and equip it with the Seven CNC system.

This tailored forming solution is designed specifically to handle plates with flanges, a demanding application in which control, stability, and repeatability are critical to production quality.

IRMA measurement and auto correction in real time

The IRMA system, integrated in the Seven CNC system, continuously measures and auto-corrects the bending radius, ensuring the perfect curve, every time.

By measuring during the bending process and correcting automatically, IRMA reduces scrap, improves consistency, and removes uncertainty from complex flange bending operations.

Radius gauge verifying bend accuracy on a flanged plate formed by the SweBend SB3-105 CNC bending machine

Manual radius verification with a G50 gauge confirms the bend accuracy. While the IRMA system measures and auto-corrects the bending radius in real time, a physical check validates the final result against specification.

Capacity and bending performance

This machine handles plates up to 36 inches wide, with 1-inch flanges, rolling down to 12-inch radii in both directions.

This capability allows Honeywell to bend larger and more complex flanged plates than before, expanding production capacity while maintaining tight tolerances.

Machine FAQ

When does a customized bending solution make sense?2026-04-01T10:54:04+02:00

Customized bending, or tailored forming, fits when geometry is demanding, the bending challenge is unique or volume is high. It is also the right choice when future part changes are expected. Long term, it improves reliability, capacity, and return on investment.

How does automatic radius measurement improve bending accuracy?2026-04-01T10:54:03+02:00

Measurement during bending verifies the actual radius. Automatic correction compensates for material variation in real time. This is critical when tight tolerances are required across many identical parts.

Why is CNC control important when bending flanged plates?2026-04-01T10:54:00+02:00

CNC systems standardize each bend cycle. They reduce operator influence and setup time. In real production, this leads to predictable output and lower scrap rates.

What type of bending machine is best for flanged plate applications?2026-04-01T10:53:59+02:00

Applications like industrial conveyors and sorting equipment need strong control of asymmetric parts. Adapted section bending machines deliver better geometry stability than generic plate rolls.

What challenges are common when bending plates with flanges?2026-04-01T10:53:58+02:00

Flanges change how material flows through the rolls. This increases sensitivity to springback and setup variation. Customized roll geometry and measured control are required to keep radii consistent.
